Detection of myocardial scar tissue by M-mode echocardiography.

چکیده
Wall thicknesses were measured and echo densities were evaluated from the left ventricular echograms of 182 patients. The echogram was considered to reflect scar tissue when 1) either the interventricular septum, the posterior left ventricular wall or the anterior left ventricular wall was less than 7 mm thick in mid-diastole and was more echo-producing than its opposing wall or another area of the same wall in a sector scan, or 2) an area of myocardium was 30% less thick than an adjacent area within a sector scan. Myocardial scarring was diagnosed by echocardiography in 52 of the 182 patients. The echocardiographic presence or absence of scarring was confirmed in 95% (173 of 182) of cases, 34 cases by microscopic examination and 139 by surgical appearance. This study shows that M-mode echocardiography is both a sensitive and specfic method for detecting myocardial scar tissue.

Comparison of MRI and transthoracic echocardiography for detection of myocardial lesions in patients with coronary artery disease and preserved left ventricular function
Background The presens of myocardial scar tissue as a potential arrhythmogen substrate may influence the treatment of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Delayed enhancement MRI (DE-MRI) allows accurate detection and visualization of myocardial scar tissue. We thought to detect myocardial scar tissue in patients with CAD and preserved left ventricular (LV) function without regional wal...
متن کاملEffect of high- intensity interval training on tissue changes of collagen type 1 and fibrosis percent in male rats with myocardial infarction
Introduction: Myocardial infarction (MI) is defined pathologically as cardiac muscle cell death due to abnormal blood flow, prolonged coronary artery ischemia, and replacement of cardiac tissue necrosis as a dense fibrotic lesion. Expression of collagen-1 protein levels and fibrosis increase after myocardial infarction in cardiac tissue. The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of...
متن کاملMeasurement of Left Ventricular Myocardium Wall Instantaneous Motions with Echocardiographic Sequence Images
Background & Aims: One of the important aims of quantitative cardiac image processing is the clarification of myocardial motions in order to derive biomechanical behavior of the heart in the disease condition. In this study we presented a computerized analysis method for detecting the instantaneous myocardial changes by using 2D echocardiography images. Methods: The analysis was performed on th...
متن کاملTissue Doppler Imaging versus Conventional Echocardiography in Evaluation of Cardiac Functions in Diabetes Mellitus
Background: Conventional echocardiography and tissue Doppler imaging have been highlighted to diagnose diastolic and systolic heart dysfunction. We aimed to compare tissue Doppler imaging with conventional echocardiography to diagnose heart dysfunctions in diabetes mellitus type 1 (DMT1) patients. <s...
متن کاملThe Type of Injury Dictates the Mode of Repair in Neonatal and Adult Heart
BACKGROUND The neonatal heart possesses the unique power to regenerate in response to resection of the left ventricular apex. We sought to determine whether the type of injury affects the mode of repair and regeneration. METHODS AND RESULTS Apical resection, or permanent left anterior descending coronary artery ligation, was induced in neonatal 1-day-old mice. Echocardiography was used to con...
